One of our most exciting new offerings is going to come (hopefully) in the form of
fingerling potatoes! Sweet, succulent, unique, and fun for any dish, these spuds are sure to broaden anyone's cuisine.
Here is a sampling of some of the varieties we will be trialing this year:
**French Fingerling
**Austrian Crescent
**Red Thumb
**Russian Banana
**Princess La Ratte
We will also continue to offer our tasty red and yellow potatoes.
This year, I finally remembered to order sweet potato slips. We can grow excellent sweet potatoes here in the Northland, and my favorite recipe is cubed sweet potatoes, farmer style.
For 35 years I have avoided the
rutabaga. Ducking, dodging, even hiding for weeks on end out in the shed. Didn't work for 2011. Yes, it's true, rutabaga lovers can be heard cheering all over the Northland, clear to Madeline Island...
We are going to offer rutabaga, and another of it's cousins in the gross vegetable category, the
turnip.
Here we grow again...the first of the seedlings are
popping in the greenhouse now. The weather is looking good, so
hopefully we can dip a plow in the dirt here in another week or two. So
far, it looks like the blueberries, garlic, and grapes
made it through the winter just fine. With any luck, we should be able
to start planting the fields in a few weeks.
See you soon!
